Summer Library Program (Reading) Survey Aug. 30 Deadline
As I mentioned at the Full Board Meeting last Friday the dates for the Summer Library Program Survey that was relayed to the consultants had a misprint in the email. The office will need to have your Survey’s completed by August 30, 2021. This will give us time to compile the results and get it into the LSTA Grant final report. For those that have already filled out the Survey thank you. For those that haven’t yet I apologize for the error and appreciate you adjusting your schedule to meet the new deadline.
Kansas Library Association 2021 Conference
The Kansas Library Association has posted the link to reserve your hotel for the upcoming 2021 conference in Wichita, October 27-29. This is the reservation link so you can get your room booked ahead of time. At this time the registration has not opened, but we it becomes available we will inform you of that link.

Talking Books Sample Drive
This past week you should have received a blue case with a new talking books sample. This new drive is to be placed with your library’s sample Talking Books Reader machine. Both are to be used when a patron comes in and wants to work with the reader and drive to become familiar with the machine before they receive theirs from Talking Books.
Talking Books sent you a new drive because it has changed on how books are delivered. It used to be that one drive held only one book. Now one drive can hold three books or more dependent on size of audio files.

Train U.P. ! Cybersecurity/Website Checklist
The month of October is Cybersecurity Month join us for Train U.P. on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 with Steve and Jody. Steve will present on how you can be prepared for Cybersecurity Month. Steve will inform you how to become a Cybersecurity Champion. Learn about all the free resources you have at your fingertips such as social media content. This knowledge will help you and your patrons to stay safe online. Jody will continue with the Website Checklist. This presentation will be a little reminder of what information needs to be on the library’s website as well as good practices and recommendations for layouts.

Cimarron City Library New Scanner
IQ Flex Large Format Scanner
The Cimarron City Library is now the proud owner of a large format scanner. This opportunity came to us when Gray County transferred USDA aerial maps dating from 1938-39, 1952 and 1976 to the Library. These maps are an incredible documentation of how the county changed throughout the years. The USDA began this program in 1935 after the depression and drought. The maps are approximately 2’ x 2’ and much too large for the scanner we were currently using.
Because we wanted to provide access to the maps through our online archives, the Library had planned to write a grant for a large format scanner. However, life has a funny way of happening. The opportunity to scan the 1967 maps ‘came out of nowhere’ – with a catch. We would only have a limited amount of time to scan them before they had to be returned to the owner. With that information in hand, we were able to find local donors interested in preserving the county’s history.
This scanner will not only come in handy for this current project, but for all larger format items.
