Full Board Meeting March 18

The next Full Board meeting is March 18. This meeting is an on-line meeting and will begin at 10:00 am that morning. To register for the meeting here is the Registration Link and the join the Zoom room you will need this Zoom Link

C.E. Certificates

I mentioned during the January Board Meeting that Tandy and I would begin working on the Continuing Education Certificates. We have deactivated staff members from our member libraries that we knew no longer were at their respective libraries. Tandy or I will be getting with some of the member libraries to make sure we have the correct staff listed for your specific library if we have any specific staffing questions.

During the April 22, Full Board hybrid meeting we will handout benchmark certificates for these levels:

LV 1 – 100 hours; LV 2 – 250 hours, LV3 – 400 hours; LV4 – 550 hours; LV5 – 700; LV6 850 hours; and LV7 – 1000 hours.

Virtual Town Hall: Facing the Challenge

For any of our member librarians that will not be able to make the Summer Library Program workshop on March 4, there is another virtual town hall that you might like to attend. Censorship and Intellectual Freedom are being discussed in several different sessions this year. Another opportunity to take part in the discussion will be March 4, from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. The Town Hall will be hosted by PLA and is entitled “Facing the Challenge: Intellectual Freedom in Libraries”. If you are interested here is the registration link for this free session.

The panelists will be: Deb Sica, Deputy County Librarian at Alameda County Library (Freemont, CA); Cindy Hohl, Director of Branch Operations at the Kansas City Public Library (Kansas City, MO); Kathy Carroll, newly elected member of the ALA Executive Board and immediate past president of American Association of School Librarians (Blythewood, SC); and Melanie Huggins, PLA President and Executive Director of Richland Library (Columbia, SC).

Important Details About Summer Library Program Workshop

The Summer Library Program Workshop is fast approaching and I hope everyone is getting excited about the workshop. Just a little reminder to bring your laptop. We are doing a training in the afternoon on a program called Scratch. This program teaches kids the basics of coding. If you like to get a small description of the Scratch program the following link is a recording from a Train U.P. Session. Click here for the recording. If you do not have a laptop we will have extras that you can use for the afternoon. 

We have included a map of First Church of God parking options. If these locations are filled which we are not anticipating there is parking at the Farmers’ Market grocery store. The Farmers’ Market is just a short distance from the church. If you prefer to be chauffeured, feel free to call Richard’s cell phone at 620-474-3321. The Farmers’ Market address is 1800 Central Ave Dodge City, Ks 67801 please park on the east side of the parking lot. An email will follow closer to the event.

We will welcome another guest speaker to the schedule: Erica Young. Ms. Young is a lawyer based in KCKS, and she specializes in DEI. She will discuss awareness in such areas as DEI vernacular, Human Resources, title challenges, etc., with a particular emphasis on small rural libraries. Truly, she is an impressive lady, and we’re so lucky to have her with us. Learn more / Link

You may remember that we will also host Dr. Marché Fleming-Randle, the first African American Female Vice President for Military and Veterans Affairs and Chief Diversity Officer at Wichita State University. Learn more / Link
