Rolla Library Present at William Allen White Award Ceremony 2022

Rolla Library is excited to announce they have been chosen to present awards to two winning authors at the William Allen White ceremony in October. The William Allen White Children’s Book Award is a set of two annual awards for books selected by vote of Kansas schoolchildren from lists prepared by committee. The William Allen White program is made up of two age levels. The lower level is made up of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. The higher level is made up of 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Two lucky students from Rolla will get to present about an author, one for the lower level and one for the higher level.

Rolla Library has been attending the award ceremony for several years. In recent years, about 5 students have taken the journey to Emporia. They leave early Friday, and once they arrive in Emporia, the students get a tour of William Allen White’s house.  In the evening, the Rolla students and staff get to meet with the authors at a recreation center in Emporia where the dress code is pajamas. This gives the students the chance to get autographs from authors as well as ask questions. Then on Saturday, they will head to the William Allen White award ceremony. It is a fun event for all to attend.

Phoebe Brummett, Rolla librarian, believes it is so important to award the students for achieving their goals and making a fun day out of it. SWKLS is proud that Rolla Public Library and Phoebe Brummett have continued to participate in the William Allen White program throughout the years and through COVID. We are so happy the William Allen White Award Committee have granted this honor to such a well-deserved director and library.
