SpongeBob SquarePants is Everywhere
SpongeBob helped Hamilton County Library kick off the Summer Reading Library Program at the Syracuse Elementary School. He met a lot of new people. The first was a board member for the library, Colten Soelze, and next, he high-fived a 1st grader. Finally, he greets a kinderprep teacher and student. What a fun day for SpongeBob!!
SpongeBob visited the Satanta Grade School on May 17, 2022, to promote our Summer Reading Program. Exciting things are coming to Dudley Township Library for the summer.
Consulting
System Office Closing for Upcoming Holiday
The System Office will be closed Monday, May 30, 2022, in observance of Memorial Day. The office will reopen Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at normal business hours.
Kansas Notable Books List for 2022
Acting State Librarian, Cindy Roupe, recently sent out a notification of the new 2022 listing of the Kansas Notable Books Grant Program, of 2021 published book titles. The titles are either written by Kansan authors or highlight Kansas is some form. The 15 titles can be found at this link. The grant isn’t open yet, this is just to show you what titles have been added to the list of possible purchases of titles that the Kansas Notable Books grant will reimburse the library.
The application for the grant is still forthcoming and will be released by the State Library at a future date. The System office will place the application link in the Weekly Wrap UP, when it becomes available.
Lego Build A World of Play Platform
The Lego Foundation has created a “Build A World of Play” platform with several free resources for libraries. The platform is available at no cost to libraries at this time, through this link, and includes adaptable “how to” activity ideas, a catalog of “plug-and-play” activities, and downloadable media and communication assets for use on social channels.
Part of the Lego Foundation’s goal is to highlight the importance of play and learning. The platform/campaign will be available to access from June 10 – August 10, 2022. One question that is on the site is:
“Can I still use your activity guides when the campaign ends?
Yes! In fact, we hope you’ll help us build a world of play long after our official campaign finishes.”

Cataloging, Collection Development, and ILL
“A new Kentucky law will give politicians control over local library boards in the state. The law, which will go into effect in January 2023, will empower local politicians to make appointments to library boards and to control library spending.”

CatExpress Subscription has been updated: July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023

BIG NEWS re: brief bibliographic records / brief bibs / zzz bibs
Finally, each library has the ability to edit settings in Circ Admin to set the default to: “Auto-Delete at check in”! To make this change, go to Circ Admin — Brief Record Options — Click the box next to “Auto Delete at check in”. Completing this step will ensure that new brief bibs will not linger in the catalog after they have completed their purpose (i.e. ILL items, etc.). Yay!
